Moving forward we need to REVERSE

Many companies have finally started to recognize the need for more earth-friendly products. Fewer have embraced more earth-friendly packaging and shipping materials. Most companies still use materials that cannot or are not easily recycled. Corporations need to be accountable for thier business practices, however when we purchase the goods offered by these companies we need to realize our contribution to the cycle. The garbage blowing past my window was not left by a multinational corporation. An honest discussion needs to begin with each individual's contribution to the current state of of our planet.

Be the Solution

To be effective any solution has to begin at the consumer level. Creative purchasing is the first step in reducing packaging waste. Purchasing products that utilize environmentally responsible materials in addition to reusable products reduce the amount of waste created every year. Packaging is designed to sell products. Drink bottles are often clear plastic because people are more likely to purchase a product they can see. Brightly colored dies and plastics are meant to catch the eye. All of these can be difficult to recycle and even toxic. You are paying for the packaging material when you make a purchase. Ask yourself, are you willing to spend your money on these pollutants? After your purchase, you can make use of the packaging for your benefit rather than just discarding it.

You are the solution! Embrace your power. Your contribution does make a difference. Together we can reverse the damage that has been done and create a cleaner tomorrow.
